Vincent Kompany explains why Burnley tied Lyle Foster down to longer contract

Vincent Kompany expressed his happiness after Burnley striker Lyle Foster signed a new long-term contract.
The striker has agreed to a new five-year deal with the Clarets that will keep him at Turf Moor until 2028.

Foster joined the club in January, signing a four-and-a-half year contract after joining from Belgian side KVC Westerlo.
After a difficult first six months, the 23-year-old has had a strong start to the Premier League season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

When asked how important Foster is to Burnley’s prospects of survival, Kompany answered, “I think it’s clear.”

“He came from a small club before joining us, and we believe he’ll be a key striker in the Premier League.”

“When you compare what the benchmarks are in the Premier League, it was maybe a slight correction from our side and also making sure he can have a little bit longer at the club, so we’re really happy with that.”You mention settling in, but we have another 14 players in the squad who are doing just that, and it took Lyle six months. But he’s content, and he’s doing well.

“It’s not just what he’s shown on the pitch, it’s also what he’s shown off the pitch, his character, he’s dependable, he’s hard working, he’s a player that is there for the team and able to compete at this level, so I think it’s good for the club.”

Foster boldly opened up about his struggles with mental health during the offseason, but Kompany believes the striker is in decent mental health right now.

“Can you provide statistics?” Many folks are in pain. There must be a couple in this room, right? So it’s a part of it,” he explained.

“It’s his choice to be open about it, which maybe helps him and helps others. But in the end he’s fine. He’s been happy, he’s performing and doing everything he needs to do. He’s stable.

“We support him in the way he needs to be supported.”
