Fabrizio Romano reveals the defender Milan will sign in January

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on AC Milan’s pursuit of a center-back, following recent speculation about a January move for Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior.

Long-term injuries to Marco Pellegrino and Pierre Kalulu have left Milan short on depth in the center of defense, and Stefano Pioli confirmed in his pre-Udinese press conference that the club intends to sign a new defender when the transfer window reopens.

Given the numerous reports linking the Rossoneri with a move for Kiwior, who joined Arsenal in January but was a Milan target while at Spezia, Romano has now provided an update.

He is struggling to find regular playing time in Mikel Arteta’s side, prompting speculation that the Gunners may be open to the idea of a loan move in some capacity.

According to Romano in his exclusive column for the Daily Briefing on CaughtOffside, Milan were not the only Italian team interested in Kiwior this summer, and they currently have another priority.

“Jakub Kiwior – As I recently reported, there was interest from an Italian club in Jakub Kiwior during the summer, but Arsenal said no,” Romano said.

“There are now links with AC Milan, but I can confirm they are not the Italian club I was mentioning – they weren’t looking for signings in that position in the summer.

“They are now looking for cover there due to injuries, though, but the priority is Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth.”
