Jamaal Lascelles lauded one Newcastle United player who sparkled during their victory over Chelsea.
Jamaal Lascelles praised Lewis Miley’s performance after the teenager impressed on his whole home Premier League debut for Newcastle United. Miley, who impressed during pre-season, has had to wait for first-team opportunities this season, but he put in a strong performance against the Blues on Saturday.
Eddie Howe rated Miley’s performance as ‘amazing’ after the game, summarised by a lovely assist for Alexander Isak’s opener after only 13 minutes, while Lascelles was also full of praise for the kid. “He’s a huge talent,” he remarked. Massive potential and a wonderful person.
“He is really humble and so hard working. He is very respectful. I thought he was fantastic out there up against a midfield worth, I don’t know how many millions. He was excellent and certainly did not look out of place so credit to him.
Miley is the latest player to get into Newcastle’s first-team midfield from the club’s academy. Lascelles, like Elliot Anderson and Sean Longstaff before him, said that he could tell from away that the midfielder had a bright future in the game.
“Straight away when he came in at 16 we knew he was good.” Lascelles said. “It was almost similar to Sean Longstaff, when he came in.
“You kind of knew he had a chance and it’s the same with Lewis Miley. When he fills out a bit more he’s going to be a beast. He’s my height and in midfield, he’s got a bright future.
“In the dressing room he’s the same Lewis Miley. Great young lad, everyone loves him, everyone enjoys his company and I’m just so pleased for him.”
