Breaking: Commanders Land Another Top Offensive Star

The 2024 NFL Draft second-round pick adds endless variety to the NFL offense.

The Washington Commanders selected LSU’s Jayden Daniels with the second overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him their quarterback. They also grabbed a versatile playmaker in the second round, taking Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott with the 53rd overall pick on Day 2 of the draft.

Sinnott was projected as the second-best tight end in the draft behind Brock Bowers, but his versatility and athleticism should allow him to slot straight into Kliff Kingsbury’s playbook.

Sinnott, an offensive coordinator who prefers to stretch the defense and attack downfield, has the pass-catching ability to line up as a receiver due to his route running ability.

In other words, an ideal fit for Kingsbury and the Commanders’ attack.

Ben Sinnott ready to shine with the Commanders and build chemistry with Jayden Daniels

Sinnott grabbed 49 receptions and led the team in receiving yards (676) during his final season at Kansas State. Sinnott would be an interesting target for Daniels in a wide offense, and he can also line up as a fullback and contribute to Kingsbury’s exciting bubble screen game. His blocking ability would also be used in this method.

Speaking of versatility, Sinnott is “excited” to bring his skill set to the Commanders’ offense, describing it as “unlimited” in terms of what he believes he can do in an NFL offense.

“Yeah, I mean, I think it’s just unlimited,” Sinnott said during a press conference after the draft. “My potential is limitless. With my alignments and what [Kansas State] trusted me with. I believe Coach Kingsbury will have a lot of fun with what he can do and where he can put me. So I’m excited. I’m extremely excited to be a part of this system.”

Sinnott is also excited to play alongside his new quarterback, having practiced with Daniels several times in California. The new Commanders tight end stated that he was able to create a small amount of chemistry, which Kingsbury would have fun expanding into a larger chemistry.

Sinnott’s ability to run after the grab will certainly be appealing to Commanders aficionados. His speed (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) will surprise defenses, and he’ll use it to break through tackles and get extra yardage.

Ben Sinnott, like Sam LaPorta with the Detroit Lions in 2023, has the potential to thrive as a rookie given the circumstances surrounding his draft. It should be entertaining, as the Commanders are developing an explosive offense for 2024.

It all starts with Jayden Daniels, but Sinnott will make an excellent addition as well.
