Michigan football continues to gain momentum on the recruiting trail, landing its second four-star commitment in just one week and keeping the buzz building in Ann Arbor. After previously securing a major win with an edge rusher, the Wolverines struck again—this time beating out SEC competition for another blue-chip prospect.
That momentum carried over Thursday when highly regarded linebacker announced his commitment. The standout defender from Greenwood, Mississippi chose Michigan after a hard-fought recruiting battle that included LSU and several other high-profile programs.
Ford’s recruitment drew attention across the Southeast. He held offers from Tennessee and was also pursued heavily by in-state programs Mississippi State and Ole Miss. In the end, Michigan’s coaching staff and overall vision proved to be the difference.
While the head coach played a major role, Ford revealed that assistant coach Alex Whittingham was instrumental in sealing the deal. Ford explained that Whittingham’s professional background and personality stood out during the process, noting that he connected well with both Ford and his family while still commanding respect as a coach who means business.
With Ford on board, Michigan adds the No. 21 linebacker in the country. At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, he brings an impressive combination of length and athleticism, highlighted by a reported 4.6-second 40-yard dash that gives the Wolverines a fast, rangy off-ball defender.
The commitment continues a strong summer run for Michigan recruiting. Earlier in June, the Wolverines also secured a four-star cornerback, further strengthening an already impressive 2027 class.
Michigan now holds 19 verbal commitments in the 2027 cycle. The class currently ranks No. 21 nationally by one major recruiting service and as high as No. 13 by another, underscoring just how quickly this group is rising on the national recruiting landscape.
