MAJOR TRANSFER BOMBSHELL: “He reminds me of “Rodri”—Newcastle United Strikes Agreement for €25m Defensive Midfielder Who Is Like Rodri

Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Brazilian teenage sensation as interest in the Cruzeiro midfielder continues to rise across Europe.

The 17-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for Cruzeiro but has already attracted attention from several major clubs thanks to his impressive performances at the youth level for both his club and Brazil.

He joined Cruzeiro from lower-division side Azuriz Futebol Clube in 2024 and quickly established himself as a promising prospect. Last year, he featured in 32 matches for Cruzeiro’s Under-20 team, recording three goals and three assists.

His versatility has also caught the eye, with the youngster capable of operating as a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder, or in a more advanced role.

According to ESPN Brasil journalist Felipe Silva, Arsenal and Newcastle are among the European clubs keeping a close watch on Pape’s development.

Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the Brazil Under-18 international, who is increasingly being viewed as one of the country’s brightest emerging talents.

Chelsea, Manchester City, and Bournemouth were previously linked with the teenager, highlighting the growing competition for his signature.

Cruzeiro moved to strengthen their position by acquiring an additional 20 percent of Pape’s rights in June. The Brazilian club now owns 70 percent of his economic rights.

His current contract runs until December 2029 and reportedly includes a €100 million release clause for foreign clubs, giving Cruzeiro considerable protection against an early approach.

Cruzeiro Eye Record-Breaking €25m Sale

Despite the substantial release clause, Azuriz president Nelson Ramos has indicated that a transfer fee between €20 million and €25 million could be enough to make Pape the most expensive departure in Cruzeiro’s history.

Speaking about the midfielder’s future, Ramos said, “The expectation is that it will be the biggest sale in Cruzeiro’s history, between €20 and €25m.”

However, the Azuriz president stressed that Pape’s development remains more important than securing a lucrative transfer. He also expressed hope that the youngster could represent Brazil at the 2030 World Cup.

Cruzeiro’s director of youth development, Adilson Batista, has also spoken highly of the teenager’s football intelligence, tactical awareness, and ability to contribute in different midfield positions.

Batista compared Pape’s playing style to that of Rodri and Falcão, praising his ability to anticipate situations, help build attacks, and arrive in the penalty area to score.

He also described the youngster as humble, hardworking, and responsible, while predicting a bright future for his career.

Arsenal and Newcastle May Have to Wait Until Next Summer

For now, Arsenal and Newcastle are understood to be monitoring Pape rather than preparing an immediate transfer bid.

The midfielder will turn 18 next March, meaning he cannot move to the United Kingdom until next summer under the applicable international transfer rules for minors.

That timeline gives both Premier League clubs an opportunity to continue assessing his progress before deciding whether to pursue a deal.

With Bayern Munich also reportedly watching him and Cruzeiro determined to secure a record sale, competition for Pape could intensify as the next transfer window approaches.
