Sunderland’s latest stance on Will Still confirmed following mysterious social media post

Sunderland are still looking for a new manager, with Mike Dodds failing at the helm.

Sunderland fans were critical of Dodds after the most recent setback.

Last Saturday, Millwall won 1-0 on Wearside, leaving Sunderland with only one win in five and Dodds with only two wins in 11 games as interim manager.

Michael Beale was dismissed in February after only 12 games in command.

Several names have been connected to the post at the Stadium of Light, including Reims manager Will Still.

How is Will Still faring at Reims

Reims gave Still the position on a permanent basis after he led the team to an 18-game unbeaten streak last season.

Reims is reaching the end of his first full season in command of the Ligue 1 team, having lost their past two and winning only one of their last seven league games.

Still’s men are currently in 10th place in the table, six points shy of a top-six finish that would qualify them for European football next season.

Will Still to Sunderland update emerges

Still is Sunderland’s preferred next manager, yet the compensation amount may deter Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.

Still is said to cost more than £4 million to whoever wants to sign him away from Reims.

However, an emerging story from Sport Witness claims that Still’very much remains in the frame to accept the permanent Sunderland post’.

Reims are still hunting for a replacement for the 31-year-old and have highlighted former Newcastle United player Habib Beye as a possible candidate.

This comes less than a week after Still posted a strange Instagram message, a photo of himself with the words ‘Que sera, sera’.

Could Sunderland pay out Reims for Will Still

£4 million for a manager seems excessive.

However, in modern football, paying more and more for a manager has been the norm.

According to sources, the largest ever compensation sum paid for a manager occurred when Chelsea spent £15 million to get Graham Potter from Chelsea.

Of course, Sunderland is not on the same financial level as Chelsea.

However, it is possible that the Black Cats may have a busy summer on the transfer market.

A number of players, including Jack Clarke, could go and earn the club a lot of money, so there is likely to be some spending money.

Kristjaan Speakman and Louis-Dreyfus have previously preferred out-of-work managers, but they now need to demonstrate to the fans their determination and ambition for the future with a top hire.

Most fans want Still to come in, but understand that the club may not pay him out of Reims.

However, with Still still a popular figure on Wearside, Sunderland may be willing to pay the £4 million to bring him over this summer.

Sunderland return to action against Watford this weekend.
